Tee shirts, shorts, white socks, and sneakers is
the attire for tryouts. We have an ALL-GIRL Team. On the day of final cuts, everyone should wear
orange, blue, and white.
MSU has two cheer teams. The BLUE TEAM cheers
for football , men's basketball and competitions. Blue Team members are expected to have a standing back handspring,
a roundoff back handspring, multiple back handsprings (more than two), and a toe-touch back handspring with no assistance. THESE ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED BLUE TEAM QUALIFIED. HAVING
THESE TUMBLING ABILITIES DOES NOT ASSURE YOU PLACEMENT ON THE BLUE TEAM. YOU NEED TO BE EXCEPTIONAL IN
ALL THE AREAS BEING JUDGED. The TRAVEL SQUAD SHOULD BE FLUENT IN ALL OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED TUMBLING
MOVES IN ADDITION TO a standing back tuck, or a tumbling pass that includes a tuck. However, consideration may
be given to those that are close to achieving these tumbling feats.
The ORANGE TEAM cheers for women's basketball and act
as alternates for the BLUE TEAM. Ideally, the ORANGE TEAM should be able to do a standing back handspring and
a roundoff back handspring with little or no assistance. However........................................
***If you are EXTREMELY strong in ALL of the
requirements, with the exception of tumbling, you will still be considered for placement as an alternate.
Alternates are given (30) days to work their way onto the Orange Team. At the end of the (30) day period, they will either
be released or continue on as an alternate for the Orange Team.
The Competition Team will consist of no more than 20-25 people.
It is possibe for members of the Orange Team to work their way onto the Competition Team.
Tumbling alone is not enough. Fulfilling the gymnastics
requirements does not guarantee a position on either team. The other tryout requirements are just as important.
Exhibiting any signs of an undesirable attitude during
tryouts will lead to the designated applicant's rejection from further consideration of team placement.
Other tryout requirements include: an original
dance (at least four 8 counts), an original cheer, a cheer we teach, 2 chants we teach, 2 dances we teach,
a toe touch, double toe touch, front herkie, side herkie, double herkie (double jumps get no rebound in between), standing
heel stretch, and 3 selected stunts.
All team members are selected by the MSU Cheer Team
Coaching Staff. Selections are based upon the present needs of the team. All selections are final and selection
choices will not be discussed with any applicants, parents, or previous coaches of the applicants.
All piercings must be removed during tryouts, practices, and
games (including tongue rings). Using tape to cover a belly ring is unacceptable. Tattoos may be
visible during practice, however, they must be concealed during games.
